Pisa

Pisa
"Pisa with its leaning tower, its cathedral that resembles that of Santa Sofia, gives me the idea of an oriental city"
Lord Byron

 Pisa and its Leaning Tower.

The Tower, symbol of the city, is the most known Italian monument in the world.

Together with the cathedral and the baptistery, it is part of a complex of works that the poet D'Annunzio defined as "Miracles", hence the meaning of Piazza dei Miracoli for the place that hosts them.

The reason for such fame is certainly in the inclined structure of the Tower due to a subsidence in the ground, but also in its magnificent architecture, made of arches and loggias.

In Pisa there is not only the famous Leaning Tower, but at least two other inclined towers: the bell tower of the Church of San Nicola near the Lungarno and the bell tower of San Michele degli Scalzi, where the whole Church is inclined.

Pisa is a city both ancient and modern, proud of its past as a world power, with a peak during the period of the Maritime Republic.
